Jay Jex

June 24, 1937 — June 27, 2011

Jay Blaine Jex, 74, of Aberdeen, entered eternal rest on June 27, 2011 in Olympia, Washington. He was born June 24, 1937 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the son of Cooper Lee and Ruth (Daniels) Jex.

He attended Spanish Fork High School and enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. He served proudly for 20 years including a tour in Viet Nam, where he was a hospital corpsman.

Blaine worked for Grays Harbor Community Hospital for 30 years as an X-Ray technician and also served as Grays Harbor County Coroner for four years from 1975 to 1979. He enjoyed working as a deputy sheriff reservist, including time as the Captain of the North Beach Reserve Unit.

He married Shirley Holbrook in Raymond on April 5, 1979 and they made their home in Central Park. Shirley preceded him in death in Aberdeen on January 13, 2003.

Blaine is survived by three sons: Brian (Kathleen) Jex, Coppell, TX, Brad (Priscilla) Jex, Bay City, TX and Mike (Kim) Jex, Olympia; a daughter: Diane (David) Robie, McLean, VA; four step-sons: Ron (Angela) Black, Raymond, Steve Black, John (Heidi) Black and Tony Snodgrass, all of Elma; two step-daughters: Debbie Pena, Central Park and Sandy Nussbaum, Raymond; two brothers: Don (Kathy) Jex, Maricopa, AZ and John (Vicki) Jex, Roy, UT; a sister: Helen Jex Edwards, Salt Lake City, UT; and also 30 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Lee, Gordon and Keith Jex and a sister, Afton Clark.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 PM Thursday June 30th in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 1st at the funeral home chapel where Pastors Bob Rester and Steve Gaffney of Central Park Neighborhood Church, will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held at Menlo’s Fern Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Central Park Neighborhood Church, 7010 Bryrwood Dr., Aberdeen, WA 98520 or to your favorite charity.
