Richard “Lance” Jenkins (79), a North River resident and former logger, died Tuesday morning, May 1, 2018 at his home in North River.
Lance was born on April 14, 1939 at his family home on Pioneer Creek in Grays Harbor Co. At the age of 9, his family moved to Cosmopolis and then later to South Aberdeen. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1957 and received his degree in Drafting from Grays Harbor College.
On December 26, 1959, Lance married Patricia Joan Loveless in the Aberdeen Lutheran Church. They moved to North River where they currently reside.
Lance was an entrepreneur. He was the owner and operator of the Falls River Logging Company for many years and then worked for Prime America as a Financial Advisor. He was active in his community as a member of the North River Grange. Lance also helped raise money for the “Dollars for Scholars” program as well as served on the North River School Board. He was an Elder at the Raymond Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He enjoyed raising horses and cows, hunting, building things, tinkering, gardening and raising chickens.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Jenkins of North River, WA; a son, Tillman (Dee) Jenkins of Yakima, WA; Daughters: Patricia May Durga of North River and Heidi Diebert of Aberdeen; a sister, Bonnie (Frank) Staller of Elma; and a friend and hunting partner Hugo Brodine; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, William L. Jenkins, a sister Betty L. Seidle and a grandchild.
There will be a graveside service for Lance on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the North River Cemetery, Brooklyn, WA at 11 AM. A reception potluck will follow the graveside at the North River Grange.
