Steven Charles Hora, 65, a longtime resident of South Beach, died Monday, February 2, 2015 at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center, Aberdeen, following a short illness. Steven was born October 15, 1949 in Tacoma, WA, the son of Charles and Dorothy (Becker) Hora. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Tacoma, in 1967 and would later take college courses at Grays Harbor College.
He joined the Army in 1970 and after discharge in 1972 he came to Westport for commercial fishing. Several years later he also worked for Ocean Spray and Foss Environmental.
For 32 years Steven was a volunteer fireman at Westport and had also served three terms as a fire commissioner for Fire District 3. He also served on the board of directors for the South Beach Ambulance. His favorite activity was the fireworks show.
On September 8, 2002 at Twin Harbors State Park, he married Shannon McHatton.
Steve was a member of the American Legion, Aberdeen, National Riffle Association, the Teamsters Union, the Washington Association of Fire Commissioners and the Grays Harbor Coin Club.
Besides his wife, Shannon of the family home in Westport, Steve is survived by a daughter: Heather Foucher, Port Orchard, WA; a step-son: Christofer Clemens, Norfolk, NB; a step-daughter: Cherie Clemens, Vancouver, WA; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Minck in 2005.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 14th at 11 AM at the South Beach Presbyterian Church, 3707 State Route 105 South, Grayland.
