Barbara Mae Hoff, 83, longtime Aberdeen resident died Friday, March 7, 2014 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.
Barbara was born on October 14, 1930 in Kelso, Washington to George Walter and May Alberta (Martin) Comer. She graduated from Kelso High School in 1948, and went to work for Longview Fiber soon after.
On May 28, 1951, Barbara eloped with Arthur Hoff to Miles City, Montana and they were married for almost 53 years until his passing in 2004.
Barbara and Art lived for a short time in Longview Washington and briefly in North Dakota until Art’s job with Weyerhaeuser brought them and their two sons to Aberdeen in 1957. Many years were spent watching her sons’ sporting events and being involved with her daughters’ activities.
She was involved with many clubs, was employed as a cook at AJ West School and a former telephone operator for Bell Telephone. She also loved playing cards, making ceramics, taking trips to the casinos and spending time with her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by two daughters: Darcy and husband Joe ‘Jr’ Marcou of Aberdeen and Trish and husband Rich Malizia of Montesano; Daughter in law, Patty Hoff of Vancouver, WA; Six grandchildren: Adam and wife Jen Hoff, Drew Hoff, Joey Marcou, Amanda Marcou, Daelin Malizia and Morgan Malizia; two great grandkids: Lucy and Wyatt Hoff. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, two sons: Dick and Tom Hoff.
There will be a celebration of Barbara’s life on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 3:00 PM in Fern Hill Funeral Home. A reception will follow in Fern Hill’s Dorothy Mann Reception Hall. She will be inurned with her husband at Fern Hill Mausoleum, Aberdeen.
The family suggests that donations can be made in her name to American Cancer Society, 1313 Broadway, No. 100, Tacoma, WA 98402.
