KIM VALENTINE EISENHOWER-HODGE

2/14/57 – 10/31/12

Kim was born on Valentine's Day, 1957, to Wayne and Yvonne Eisenhower, big brother Gary and Big sister Bonnie, in Hollywood, California. Even then we knew she would be our little star. Kim was an adventurer even from the beginning. She loved the water. In fact, as a toddler she loved her brother throwing her in the pool, I would catch her most of the time. When I missed, she would come out of the water and say "again, again." Her hair was the color of sunshine and her eyes were as blue as the water. Kim was more than our sister. She was our little charge. We took her everywhere with us.

From a very early age, Kim loved her dogs. In fact, mom could put her on a blanket in the yard with our German Shepherd, he never allowed her to get off the blanket or anyone to get close to her. Kim would even share licks on her ice cream cone with him.

Growing up, we always lived near the beach, where Kim and her friends would terrorize our Playa del Rey neighborhood. The composer, Jack Hayes, was our neighbor, Kim and Mister Hayes’ son would run and play at their house. They would be to told to be quiet while he was working and then said now say hello to Mr. Burt Bacharach and Mr. Quincy Jones.

As a teenager, she moved to Washington with mom. Our brother Gary then moved his family as well. She graduated from Aberdeen High School. Kim then returned to the beach in Los Angeles to help me with my first child, Peyton, then with Marlys. Later working for Northrup.

Peyton remembers being in his high chair when his Aunt Kim opened the frig door, he took hold of the handle and when she closed it he went with it. Never a dull moment.

Kim’s favorite holiday is Halloween. Marlys recalls:

My best memory of Aunt Kim was when we were little Aunt Kim would take Peyton and I trick or treating. She would always walk us around and if we were scared she would walk with us to the door. She also put on Ward’s mask, one time, and sat on this old guys lap so she could a regular sized candy bar.

In 1986 Kim and I moved to Washington to join the rest of the family. There Kim met her future husband, Mark Hodge. Kim became a country girl, learning to can (the canning queen), raise cattle and chickens. Kim and Mark loved fishing at Lake Curlew, along with their friends and Marks family. She also loved to entertain and cook for their friends.I know they will miss those great meals. She volunteered at the Aberdeen Clothing Bank and worked at Farmer's Insurance and the State Liquor Store.

Kim met so many wonderful and devoted friends during her life ,she was always there to lend a helping hand or a quick laugh and a shoulder to cry on. Kim loved her nephew, Peyton, and her niece, Marlys, like they were her own children.

She faced some difficult challenges, including having Multiple Scleroses, losing our brother, Gary, and her husband, Mark. Adversity made Kim a very strong and independent woman.

Kim is survived by her sister, Bonnie Eisenhower, her nieces and nephews, Peyton McWilliams, Marlys and George Arthur, Kimberly Eisenhower, Kathryn Girardi, Anthony Eisenhower, her in-laws Ray and Jean Hodge, stepmother Argentina Eisenhower stepsister Maria Elena Flores and stepson Troy Hodge.

You will always be my cherished baby sister. I love and miss you. I will carry you in my heart for ever. Bonnie
