Jon Karl Hitzroth, 63, Resident of Oakville and 29 year Correctional Officer for Dept. of Corrections, died at his home on Sunday, September 9, 2012.
Jon was born to Frank and Audrey (Murphy) Hitzroth on March 31, 1949 in Seattle, Washington. He grew up at Soap Lake, WA and following graduation, joined the Navy in 1967. He was Honorably Discharged in 1969. He moved to Bothel and in 1976 joined the Army. He was later Honorably Discharged in 1977.
Jon worked for the Department of Corrections at various correctional facilities within the state of Washington and retired after 29 years.
On August 8, 2009, Jon married Margaret L. Koonrad in Oakville, WA. She resides at the family home.
Jon helped train K-9 dogs and loved watching COPS on TV. Avid Facebooker and enjoyed playing video games. He loved BBQ’s and cooking and pride in making the BEST hotdogs and Hamburgers. He also lived gardening and working outdoors.
Jon is survived by his wife of 3 years, Margaret of Oakville; a son Russell Hitzroth of Oakville; daughters: Audrey of Yelm, Melissa, Nicole and Cayce all of Colorado; a brother Jay of Richland and a sister of Diane of Rainier, WA; many grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Sister-In-Law Evelyn of Oakville; Step-sons: Tony and Robert of Montesano; Step-daughters: Tricia and Carrie of Centralia. Jon was preceded in death by a brother Bill and a sister Marilynn.
A graveside service with Military Honors will take place on Monday, September 17th at 1:00 PM at the Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA.
