James Henry

d. July 1, 2021

On July 1, 2021, James “Jim” Henry passed away at the age of 72.

Jim was born in Aberdeen, Washington to John and Virginia Henry. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended Grays Harbor College and received his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Washington State University. He worked at several retail pharmacies but he loved the challenges of clinical pharmacy and he worked at Grays Harbor Community Hospital for 30 plus years.

On April 30, 1976, he married Jacqueline Aho. They met when they both were employed at the Harbor Drive-in theatre.

Jim helped finance his education working nights as a movie theatre projectionist at the local theatres and in Pullman. He had a lifelong love of movies, music, and theatre arts. Jim loved cooking and baking and was known for his breads, Nanaimo bars, and baklava. He also had a passion for photography and photo editing. In the spring, Jim liked to take drives with his dear friend Irene Street. They would search for the first skunk cabbage of the season to photograph. Jim and Jackie made several trips to Hawaii and Port Townsend where they made many happy memories. He loved animals, wrote poetry and loved to discover unusual words. He was known for his wit, sense of humor, his colorful Hawaiian shirts and his kilt, his compassion for others, his generosity, and his willingness to share his knowledge. His positive attitude throughout many years of health challenges earned him the admiration and respect of all who knew him. He was an organ donor his entire adult life and he received the gift of a donor kidney in 2017.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Jack, and his mother, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Jackie, his brother-in-law David, his sister Brenda, his brother Bob, and several cousins, nephews, nieces, and god children. At Jim’s request, no funeral services will be held. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Memorials may be made to Grays Harbor College Foundation, 1620 Edward P. Smith Dr., Aberdeen, WA 98520 and PAWS of Grays Harbor, PO Box 451, Aberdeen, WA 98520.
