Norman C. Henderson (September 29, 1923 - May 6, 2011) was a 1942 graduate
of Weatherwax High School where he was drum major for the marching
band. After graduation he served in World War II as a medic with the Army
3rd Division first in North Africa and then at Anzio where he was captured
and held for 16 months as a prisoner of war in northern Germany. Returning
home at war's end he worked as a printer at the Aberdeen World newspaper
and then at ITT Pulp and Paper Mill.
Because of chronic leg conditions generated during his World War II
internment, he spent his last five years at the American Lake Veteran's
Hospital where he received loving care.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henning and Selma Henderson, and
is survived by cousins in Washington, California and Sweden.
Norman was an amateur photographer and World War II historian. He was also
noted for his delightful ability to relate events with detailed and vivid
accuracy.
He was a life long member of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.
A loving and caring person, he will be deeply missed by family and friends.
At his request there will be no memorial service. Remembrances may be sent
to Amazing Grace Lutheran Church.
