Joscelyn Hallam

December 16, 1928 — January 9, 2013

Joscelyn Ayer Hallam, 84, a resident of the Harbor for 58 years, died at Karr House in Hoquiam, Wednesday, January 16, 2013. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, December 9, 1928, the daughter of Edwin and Laura (Griffiths) Ayer. She lived in Ohio, California and Illinois. She received a bachelors degree in English from the University of Bowling Green and had been a member of Alpha Phi Sorority.

She had been a civilian employee of the military in Alaska during World War Two and later came to the Harbor in 1955. She married Jerrold Knight Hallam in Aberdeen on July 15, 1958. He had been a lawyer and a city judge. He died here in 1988.

Joscelyn had worked for the Department of Welfare on the Harbor in the 1960’s, but was primarily a homemaker taking care of her children.

She was a bowler on several teams and volunteered for FISH. She also was an award winning quilter and a Girl Scout leader.

Joscelyn is survived by three sons: Robert, Auburn, Charlie, Aberdeen and JB, DesMoines, WA; a daughter: Patricia Hallam Inglis, in Florida; and also six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. A brother, Bill Ayer, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at Noon, Saturday, January 26th in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen. Father Dale McQueen, rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, will officiate.
