Mary Louise (Godfrey) Whitehall, 82, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen with her family around her.
Mary was born on January 7, 1932 in Dominguez, CA to Norman Clair and Dena Loise (Ropert) Godfrey. Mary was a member of the Hoquiam Eagles for over 30 years. She also belonged to Eastern Star and The American Legion for many years.
When she was 15, she went to work at the 7th Street Theater in Hoquiam. Shortly after she started she met Albert Smith. They married and had four children. They later divorced. After their divorce, she was re-acquainted with her childhood best friend, Lyle Melvin King. Together they had a daughter. They were married until his passing in 1971. In 1982, she met Artice Whitehall on the dance floor. They married one year later. Together they enjoyed camping, dancing, card games and traveling until their divorce years later.
Mary enjoyed sewing, decorating cakes, baking, and gardening. She always had a big beautiful garden she was proud of. She was the most giving and loving woman who opened her home and her hart to more than just her family. She was a jock of many trades and eventually retired from the City of Hoquiam.
Mary is survived by her children: Leland and wife Grace Smith, Patrick and wife Kim Smith, Jeff and wife Kathy Smith, Craig and wife Tina Byers, Teri and husband Ron August and Lori McBride. Numerous grandchildren, especially her granddaughter Jodi and Husband John Okeson, whom helped care for her the last years of her life. Several great grandchildren, including three more to be born soon and one great great grandchild. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter Terry Lynn, her mother Dena Naslund, her father Claire Godfrey, her brothers, Leland and Scott Godfrey and her sisters Janice, Kathy and Lois.
There will be a celebration of Mary’s life on Friday, August 29th at 1:00 PM at the Fern Hill Funeral Home Chapel.
