Leland Glaser

August 2, 1931 — September 1, 2023

Leland Leonard Glaser, our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on September 1, 2023. He was born August 2, 1931 to John and Martha (Miller) Glaser in Britton, S.D. He grew up in Loyola, S.D. where he attended Loyola High School along with his three brothers, Vern, Curt and Francis and his two sisters, Helen and Norma who all are with him now in heaven.

He joined the Navy in 1948 and served with distinction for thirty years, through the Korean War, three combat tours in Vietnam and the Cold War. He was a “mustang” officer, serving most of his enlisted time in the submarine service. He was a junior warrant officer in Vietnam, assigned to River Section 541 and ended his Naval career as a Senior Warrant officer in the Pacific Fleet.

Lee met Jacqueline “Jackie” Justice in 1962 and they were married in 1963. He adopted her two young sons, Monte and Marlo.

Lee retired from the Navy in 1978 and moved to Wishkah Valley, WA. where worked at the Hoquiam Water Dept. for 20 years, retiring in 1996.

Lee and Jackie both became members of Wishkah Valley Church soon after moving to the valley. Where he served as an Elder for many years. He considered everyone in the Church and the valley as part of his family and often had friends stop by to visit. After his son Monte and his family moved to Wishkah in 1983, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and being involved in their many activities and gardening. He was often found riding his tractor around the property.

Following the death of his beloved Jackie in 2005, Lee moved to Fort Collins, CO in 2019 with Monte and Kathy, where he lived at the Winslow. He had many friends at the Winslow and enjoyed many of the activities, especially bingo. Having his grandchildren and great grandchildren living around him and going to baseball games, track meets, football games and attending church with all of them were great joys of his life.

Lee loved sports, especially baseball. His favorite teams were the Chicago Cubs and the Mariners. If he wasn’t at a sporting event, he was watching them and would have long discussions with his grandsons and great grandsons about the Mariners chances in the playoffs.

Lee is survived by his son Monte (Kathy) Glaser, Fort Collins, CO. His grandchildren, DeAnna (Charles) Meredith, Grand Junction CO, Don (Wilma) Cory, Kansas City, MO, Beth (Bill) Leonhardt, Fort Collins, CO, Gwyn (Sam) Eliason, Fort Collins, CO, Nick (Marianne) Glaser, Hoschton, GA, Jay (Kristina) Glaser, Lacey, WA, Michele (Mike) Newton, Pittsburgh, KA, Lindsay (Brent) Schultz, Grand Junction, CO, Michael Meredith, Grand Junction, CO and many nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.
