Thirty-two year resident of South Beach, Roy W. Ekstrand, 76, died at Pacific Care Center, Hoquiam, Saturday, August 20, 2011. Ray was born in Coffeeville, Kansas on July 31, 1935, the son of Hilmer and Florence (Grear) Ekstrand.
He graduated from high school in Coffeeville and joined the Army in 1955. He had been stationed at Ft. Lewis and upon his retirement in 1979 at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, he returned to Washington and Westport where he loved to fish.
Roy worked on charter boats for a while and then established Ekstrand Construction which he operated for 25 years.
Roy had married Mary Clay and she had died in Tacoma in 1996. On March 31, 2007 he married Margie Beeman in Grayland. She survives at the family home in Grayland.
He was a life member of Grays Harbor Lodge, No. 52, F&AM, Hoquiam, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3057, Westport and was a life member of the Military Order of the Cootie.
Besides his wife, Margie, Roy is survived by a step-daughter, Bev (David) Johnson, Montesano; a brother, Gerald Ekstrand, El Paso, TX; and also several grandchildren.
A memorial potluck gathering is planned for Saturday, September 24th at
1 PM at the VFW Post, Westport. A family inurnment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
