He worked for AMFAC Electric for many years and then worked for Oval Strapping and the Hoquiam School District, retiring in 2014.

Steve married R. Anna Bralens on March 31, 1978. Steve was a caring, gentle and kind man of integrity and character, who had a deep faith in God. Steve loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks. He also enjoyed collecting knives, fishing and, before cancer was diagnosed, played slow pitch and enjoyed bodybuilding and working out. Steve was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist in Hoquiam. Steve and Anna travelled with their best friends/family, Tom and Lorrie Lane, on two Caribbean cruises, Hawaii, Mexico and most recently, went hot-air ballooning at the Balloon Fest in Albuquerque, NM. Steve especially enjoyed spending time with his two sons.

Vernon, as well as best friends and family, Tom and Lorrie Lane. Steve also had special friends, Bob Brown, Wayne Cotton and Gary Geddes, who were special to him and supported him through his sixteen-year battle with cancer.
