Mary Delamater

August 20, 1938 — February 23, 2013

Mary Lou DeLaMater, 74, a resident of the Harbor since 1977, died at a Seattle hospital Saturday, February 23, 2013. She was born in Yakima, WA, August 20, 1938, the daughter of William C. and Velma G. (Healy) St. George. She graduated from high school in Yakima in 1956.

After coming to the Harbor in 1977 she was a waitress at the New China Café on Wishkah where the Rite Aid is now. She worked there until her retirement in 1990.

Mary Lou was married to George L. DeLaMater in 1981. They moved to Montesano in 1987 and she moved to Hoquiam twelve years ago following George’s death in 2001.

Mary Lou was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 224, Aberdeen. She was also a member of the Aberdeen Eagles Auxiliary, No. 24, REAC, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, camping, collecting music boxes and snow-globes.

She is survived by three sons: Daniel L. Howard, Pasco, Charles L. Howard, Hoquiam, and Chris A. Howard, Auburn; three step-sons: Bruce L. DeLaMater, Tacoma, Brian M. and wife Tonya DeLaMater, Centralia and Robert W. DeLaMater, Priest River, ID; three daughters: Paula J. and husband Jim Comstock, Sunnyside, WA, Laura A. and husband Paul Hamilton, Hoquiam and Audra Sue and husband Jack Gallington, Hoquiam; a brother Ernie St. George, Yakima; a sister: Judith Ann Senecal, Yakima; and also 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A brother, Delbert St. George, died before her.

A memorial service will be held 1 PM Thursday, February 28th in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen. Pastor Doug Cotton of the Harbor City Church will officiate. There will be a potluck reception following the service at Hoquiam Manor, 525 8th St. Inurnment will take place in Fern Hill Cemetery.
