Glen Delamater

April 11, 1932 — December 30, 2011

Glen M. DeLaMater, 79, a longtime resident of the Harbor, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Friday, December 30, 2011. He was born in Randle, WA on April 11, 1932, the son of Maurice and Vera (Walker) DeLaMater. He came with his family to Cosmopolis in 1944 and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1951. He would also later attend Grays Harbor College.

Glen joined the Army after high school and served in Korea. Upon his return he went to work for Grays Harbor Chair Factory until it closed in 1977. He then worked for Harbor Mill Works until 1990 and then Simpson Door in McCleary until he retired in 1997.

On January 1, 1955 he married Evelyn Joyce VanWormer in Aberdeen. They raised their family in Aberdeen until Evelyn died here in 2000.

Glen was a member of the Montesano Loyal Order of the Moose and a life member of the Aberdeen Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 224. He enjoyed playing pool, going to the casinos and was the bingo chairman for the VFW for several years. Glen was a self-made handyman who spent much of his retirement helping others with small projects or mowing the yards of many of his friends.

He is survived by a daughter: Cindy Winters, Aberdeen; 2 sons: Glenn, Jr. “Chet”, Oakville and Jimmy and wife, Teresa, Delano, CA; a brother: Kenny, Aberdeen; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce DeLaMater; 3 brothers: Cecil, George and Scott DeLaMater; and a sister: Hazel Cuff.

A celebration of his life and potluck will be held from 11 AM until 3 PM Thursday, January 5th at the Aberdeen VFW. Officers and members of the Aberdeen VFW Post 224 will preside. Military honors will be given by the Grays Harbor All Services Honor Guard. Private inurnment will take place in Fern Hill Cemetery.
