We said goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Wayne Lester Darrin on December 22nd 2012, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, after a long and heroic battle with Kidney cancer.
Wayne was born in Aberdeen, July 4th 1955, the fifth child of Russell and Muriel (Johnson) Darrin and lived his entire in the Wishkah Valley.
He graduated from Wishkah Valley High School in 1973, and was a standout football player. He also had participated in basketball and track. He had attended Grays Harbor Community College in the machinists program. Shortly before graduation, he began a long career in the logging industry. He had been employed by Anderson and Middleton for over 20 years, lastly as a yarder engineer. When the spotted owl crisis came about, he attended Bates Technical College in Tacoma and became an appliance technician. Wayne had worked for B&B Appliance and Moore's in Aberdeen before discovering his niche at Central TV & Appliance in Chehalis, WA. He had been employed there for approximately 14 years.
He had been active in the Twin Valley Lions Club, Wishkah Valley volunteer Fire Dept. #10, and had belonged to the NRA.
On July 30 1983, Wayne married Jeanette Lundgren of Aberdeen. He would say that he knew she was "the one for him "on their very first date. She survives at the family home in the Wishkah Valley, along with their family of pets. He is also survived by his daughters Krystal of Olympia, and Kassandra (Caleb) Small of Hoquiam, and one precious grandson Elijah Stephen Small. He is also survived by his six siblings, numerous nieces and nephews (and greats), mother and siblings- in- law, aunts, and countless cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by twin sons Jared and Jeremy, and a daughter Alicia (all born too soon); his parents Russell and Muriel and other relatives.
Wayne was an open and fun loving guy. He was very intelligent and continuously had a story to tell or something to tease you about. He was a hard, honest, and conscientious worker, who cared deeply about his family and others. Wayne was a wonderful man; a gem.
Goodbye my love, you are deeply missed. We will never forget you.
A memorial service is planned for 1 PM Saturday, January 5th in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the Rotary Log Pavilion, Aberdeen. Inurnment will have taken place in St. John’s Cemetery, Wishkah Valley.
