Don was born May 23, 1923 to Pearl Magnolia Uglem and Elkanah May Crisp in Montesano Washington. He attended Montesano High School where he was known to be a very good athlete. He earned the nicknames of “Noodle and Shifty Hips” on the football team. Don joined the Navy on July 25, 1941 after his junior year then earned his GED. He proudly served on the heavy cruiser, USS Louisville, for 6 years during WWII in the Pacific. In 1947 he was honorably discharged from the Navy and moved to Missoula Montana and worked in the local lumber mills.
Here he met Rosella (Sally) Beyl and they were married in 1955. They had 4 boys and 1 girl from 1956 to 1964. In 1976 Donald moved back to the Pacific Northwest where he resided until the time of his death.
Donald spent time working at the Aberdeen and Hoquiam Senior Centers. He also enjoyed playing pool, riding his bicycle and going for walks. Most of all, he loved spending time with Ruth Johnson, whom he loved very much. They spent all of their time together and enjoyed watching Christian TV and attending church at the United Christian Church.
Donald is survived by his brother Roy Nelson of Aberdeen Washington, son Kelly Crisp and wife Patrisha of Missoula, Montana, Ken Crisp and Dana of Missoula, daughter Karla Gentry and husband Terry of Schoolcraft, Michigan, and son Kyle Crisp and wife Anne of Helena, Montana. He has 9 grandchildren, Austin Crisp, Kelsey Crisp, Kary Gentry Olson, Tara Gentry Korpi, Scott Gentry, Kyla Crisp, Kenley Crisp, Abby Crisp, and Alex Crisp. Donald also has three great grandchildren, Lydia Noel Korpi and Morgan and Mason Olson. He was called “Papa Don” by his grandchildren. He has many cousins and two nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Kevin Elkanah Crisp. He was a good and kind man and was loved by all and will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of being a part of his life. He will be in our hearts forever.
A graveside inurnment will be held at Noon, Saturday, July 20th in Wynooche Cemetery, Montesano. A Celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 PM at the United Christian Church on First Street in Aberdeen.
