Gayle Teresa Cotton, 64, Cosmopolis resident and former nurse at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, died Friday evening, October 23, 2015 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.
Gayle was born on September 18, 1951 in Goldendale, WA to Leo Gale and Janice Lee (Walton) Hake. They moved to Mt. Vernon a couple of years later.
On March 7, 1967, Gayle went to hear a gospel singer and evangelist Tony Fontaine and during the meeting the gospel of Jesus Christ came alive in her heart and she gave her life to her savior.
Later that same year they moved to Aberdeen where she graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1969. She then went to Grays Harbor Community College where she earned her License in Practical Nursing in 1973.
It was on August 14, 1971 that she married her high school sweetheart Wayne F. Cotton, Jr. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. He resides at their home, Cottonball Ranch, outside Cosmopolis.
Gayle went to work for Grays Harbor Community Hospital following graduation as an LPN and worked there off and on until she left in 2014. She then went to work for Harbor’s Home Health & Hospice. She worked there until December 13, 2014 when she was diagnosed with cancer.
Gayle was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Hoquiam and the Grays Harbor YMCA. She enjoyed her chickens, gardening, walking at Friends Landing, and her sweet dog Abby. But the joy of her life was her relationship with Christ and spending time with her family.
Gayle is survived by her husband of 44 years, Wayne Cotton, Jr. of Cosmopolis, WA; three sons: Todd of Denver, CO, Geoff and wife Stephanie of Centennial, CO and Brad and wife Samantha of Snohomish, WA; brothers Brad and wife Leslie Hake of Central Park and Gregg Hake of Renton, WA; five grandchildren: Parker, Tanner, Carson, Easton and Kylie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of Gayle’s life on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Immanuel Baptist Church in Hoquiam.
