Sorn Chum, a resident of Grays Harbor since 1984, died at a Seattle hospital Thursday, May 26, 2016. He was born November 6, 1953 in Battambong, Cambodia,.
He attended schools there and was married to Lorm Pos in 1975. They came to Grays Harbor in April 1984 and Sorn had worked in maintenance at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center for a number of years. He would later start his own business, Harvest Forest Products. Sorn retired in 2001. After retirement he became the “Soccer Grandpa”, transporting the grandkids to school and their necessary events.
Besides his wife, Lorm, Sorn is survived by 3 sons: Kim Chum, Aberdeen, Jon Chum, Hoquiam and Tony Chum, San Diego, CA; 2 daughters: Kosal Chum, Jacksonville, FL and Somalley Chum, Aberdeen; 2 brothers: Chin and Song Chum and 4 sisters: Chen, Yien, Pheap and Phan Chum, all of Cambodia; and also 10 grandchildren.
A Buddhist funeral service will be held at Noon Saturday, June 4th in Fern Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation rites will follow at the Fern Hill Crematory.
