Patricia Joann (Walczak) Carney

August 15, 1935-October 4, 2011

Patricia Joann (Walczak) Carney passed away at Westhaven Villa, Aberdeen, Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Born August 15, 1935 in Aberdeen to Gwen (Withrow) and Adam Walczak, Pat was an only child beloved by her parents. Childhood was filled with cousins, school, and days with her Grandparents, Ma and Pa Withrow, at what is now Clarke’s Restaurant. Pat was a Cosi Termite, a saxophone player in the school band. She attended and graduated from Weatherwax High School. Pat graduated from Grays Harbor Business College, preparing her for work at Industrial Electric Company (Campbell Electric).

Pat married Clarence (Dick) Carney in 1955, honoring their vows they made it through; richer-poorer, sickness and health, till death did they part.

Pat and Dick were parents to two daughters, Debra (Blecha) and Denise (Rasmussen). Pat was an active participant in the girl’s school days, serving in PTA where she proudly accepted the Golden Acorn Award. Pat was a Brownie/Girl scout leader, a Bible school teacher at Central Park Methodist Church, and was always ready for the school carnival where she ruled the White Elephant Booth for many years.

Pat returned to work at Grays Harbor Health Department in the environmental division. Her job never kept her from community activities. Pat and Dick devoted themselves to Lionism. Pat was a charter member of the Central Park Lioness club where she accepted many offices including President. After Lions and Lioness clubs merged, Pat was the first female Lion’s President in our community. She supported her husband’s many roles as a Lion including his term as District Governor. That position took them to Chicago where they participated in the Leader Guide Dog Program; together they flew to many conventions representing our local Lions including Hawaii and England. Back at home, Pat and Dick would often volunteer their time transporting donor eyes to Seattle for delivery to waiting recipients.

Sewing, knitting, and crocheting, filled what spare time Pat had. She made her daughter’s clothes, and swaddled her grandchildren with love and homemade warmth. In retirement Pat enjoyed a commercial venture “Grannies Knits and Bits.” It only took a look from a child to speak to her heart; many of the dolls she made to sell were given away with love and a smile.

Two Grandchildren will miss their Grandmother, David Blecha and Lyndsey Paul both were blessed by their Grandmother’s love for camping, crafting, and other activities. She is also survived by 2 Great-grandsons, and her constant companion Trixie Two.

A service in Pat’s honor will be held at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Wednesday, October 12th at 11 A.M.
