Gary A. Campbell, 62, “Captain Gary” of the Captain’s Corner Restaurant in South Aberdeen, died at his home in Westport, June 6, 2020. He was born in Bremerton, WA, July 11, 1957, the son of Alan and Korena (Hovey) Campbell.
The family moved periodically and Gary attended school in Pe Ell, WA and would later join Job Corps where he would receive a GED. It was in Job Corps that he learned the art of cooking and would work at various restaurants such as the Marriott and Shilo company restaurants. He came to Captain’s Corner several years ago where he got his handle “Captain Gary”.
Gary married Betty J. Lloyd in Reno on May 25, 1993 and they have lived on the Harbor for over 20 years. He enjoyed playing pool at area taverns, walking on the beach, collecting agates and tumbling them ‘til they shined.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, at the family home in Westport; a son: Allen Campbell, Hoquiam; a step-son: Nicholas Kola, Cosmopolis; a daughter: Korena Campbell, Hoquiam; two step-daughters: Brenda Jo Kever, Hoquiam and Trisha Lynn Meyers, Aberdeen; two sister: Daisy Campbell, Hoquiam and Jackie Kirschner, Bremerton; a half-sister: Patricia Harris, in Oregon; a half-brother: Larry Campbell, Portland, OR; and also one granddaughter: Sophia Crappo.
Private family memorials are planned for later this summer.
