Twenty-five year Elma resident, Jerry Butcher, 75, died at Springfield, MO, Tuesday, April 5, 2011 while visiting a daughter there. Jerry was born in Lamoni, Iowa on March 31, 1936, the son of Claude and Elsie (Wasson) Butcher.
Jerry was raised in Iowa, coming to the Harbor in 1951. He had worked in shingle mills in Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho before retiring at Bonners Ferry, ID in 1986. He returned to Elma at that time.
On April 2, 1955 he married Joyce Emery in Hoquiam. They had a large family and he loved his grandkids. He also like to fish and raised a vegetable garden every year.
Besides his wife of 56 years, Joyce, of the family home in Elma, Jerry is survived by four sons: Jerry, Jr., Lamoni, IA, Dean Butcher and Richard Deacon, both of Sacramento, CA and Gary Butcher, Elma; seven daughters: Diane Ramirez, Florida, Daileen Chapman, Sacramento, CA, Gail Stolley, Bonners Ferry, ID, Carolann Garcia, Aberdeen, Ida Howell, Wrangell, AK, Lamoni Garcia, Exeter, MO and Barbie Butcher, Cassville, MO; five brothers: Gene Butcher, Bobby Turpin and Joe Turpin, all of Hoquiam, and Donnie Turpin, Seattle; a sister: Dixie Turpin in Alaska; and also 44 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Turpin in 2008 and a sister, Wilma Sinclair in 2010.
At Jerry’s request there will be no formal funeral services.
