William Buchanan

March 15, 1928 — February 15, 2018

William (Bill) N Buchanan, 89, died on February 14 at his home in Montesano. Bill is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Jim) Furubotten, Amy (Mike) Murphy, Tracy (Richard) Bond and son in law Edward Beerbower, grandchildren Shannon, Allison, Michael, Mark, Julie, Jamie, Katy, Molly Matt, Laura and Joe. Bill had 25 great grandkids who also loved him.

Bill was born on March 15, 1928 in Tacoma to parents Bernice (Morris) and Noel Buchanan. He graduated from Buckley High School. After high school he joined the Merchant Marine and then joined the Army and served in Korea as a military policeman. Bill received two Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged from the Army.

After his service to our country Bill became a logger first in Enumclaw then in Alaska climbing tall evergreens in Prince of Wales. Bill returned to Washington and purchased his own log truck and moved to Port Angeles. Bill hauled logs from and to Port Angeles, Grays Harbor, Longview Mollala and Estacada, Oregon.

Bill and Doraine (Lanphear) married February 23, 1964. They lived in Aberdeen, Port Angeles, Castle Rock and finally returned to the Harbor and settled in Montesano. He lost the love of his life, Doraine on June 3, 2010. Bill was preceded in death by Doraine, daughter Lynette, his parents Noel and Bernice Buchanan and brother, Keith

Bill loved nothing more than being with his family. He loved being invited to "one of the kids or grandkids" house for dinner or a birthday party or out to lunch or dinner and never turned any of us down. Our dad was a quiet man with many words of wisdom. He loved a good hug when he arrived and when he left. Family and friends loved him dearly.

Bill was looking forward to skydiving on his 90th birthday. Bill enjoyed working in his yard and his neighbor said his couldn't keep up with Bill even at age 89.

Bill was involved in his church cell group and having coffee with his buddies every morning . Bill’s grandson, Michael Furubotten will officiate at his service at Grays Harbor Four Square, 4800 Central Park Drive on Friday February 23 at 11am.
