Warren E. “Boob” Brumfield, 89, a longtime Grays Harbor resident, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Sunday, January 9, 2011. He was born in Livingstone, Arkansas, August 5, 1921, the son of Elbert and Dovie (Rather) Brumfield. Warren came to Montesano in a wicker basket with his family the following year. Warren attended Montesano schools and went to work on the Fairview Dairy when he was 14 years old.
He married Bonnie Childers in Montesano in 1940 and they divorced in 1943. He entered the Army in 1944, returning to Montesano in 1946. He was married to Frances Lawson in Montesao in 1947, a marriage for 43 years.
Warren had worked for many years as a truck driver for companies including Acme Door, Picco Logging, Weyerhaeuser, Anderson-Middleton and at the construction of the Wynoochee Dam and the nuclear site at Elma. He had also drove truck for Hagara Trucking and Brumfield Trucking, retiring in 1999 at the age of 78. For a time in 1963 he sold cars for his cousin, Emery Brumfield.
He was a longtime member of the Montesano Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2455, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In 1960 he bowled a 299 game. He traveled with Frances to Hawaii and Las Vegas, and enjoyed spending time at the home of his sister-in-law Dorothy, on Summit Lake.
Warren is survived by 5 daughters: Georgieanne Nelson, Judy Teague and Marlene (Duane) Hinricks, all of Montesano, and Maureen (Mike) Hagara, Aberdeen and Jackie (Dennis) King, Bellingham; 4 brothers: Ward, Roy and Bill Brumfield, all of Montesano and Hubert Brumfield, Hoquiam; also 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Bob and Homer Brumfield, and a sister: Mary “Sis” Aubuchon.
A memorial gathering will be held at 1 PM Saturday, January 15th at the Aberdeen Elks Lodge, 1712 S. Boone St., Aberdeen.
