Louis Bogdanovich

Louis Robert Bogdanovich, 83, longtime Grays Harbor resident and former counselor at Aberdeen’s Miller Jr. High School in Aberdeen, died June 8, 2015 at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam.

“Louie” was born on December 9, 1931 in Montesano, WA to Marion and Julia (Zawislak) Bogdanovich. He graduated from Montesano High School in 1949 and went to Grays Harbor College where he earned his Associate of Arts degree. He was the Student Body President at both schools. He then went to Central Washington State College where he established a school hurdling record as a member of the track team and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master’s Degree in education. He did additional post graduate work at the University of Washington.

He joined the Army in 1953, was Honorably Discharged in 1955 and began his teaching career as a 5th grade teacher in South Bend, WA. He transferred to Raymond after two years where he taught 5th grade, was school principal and high school track coach. In 1964 he went to work at Miller Jr. High in Aberdeen where he was the boys counselor for 21 years, then for 3 years at Weatherwax (Aberdeen) High School. He also coached track at Miller, Aberdeen and Grays Harbor College at various times. Known as “Mr. B” to students, he retired in 1988.

Louie was a lifetime member of the Aberdeen Elks Lodge #593, National Education Association and the Washington Educational Association. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Lug Nuts Car Club of Aberdeen. He was a long time University of Washington football season ticketholder and enjoyed bowling and watching the Seattle professional sports teams including being an original Seahawk season ticket holder. He also taught swimming and boating for the Boy Scouts at Lake Wallowa in Oregon and was active in the Aberdeen Little League and Babe Ruth leagues while his sons played. Coffee purveyors across Aberdeen have lost one of their favorite patrons.

On June 9, 1956, Louie married Barbara Jeanette Pugh at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen. She resides at the family home. Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by sons: Jeff (Mary Lynn) of Seattle and Greg of Aberdeen; a daughter, Jill (Michael) McCormack of Lakewood, WA; sisters: Lucy Nelson of Kenmore, WA and Julia Ann (Marv) Manley of Montesano; five grandchildren: Ana Bogdanovich, Julia McCormack, Brooke Bogdanovich, and Blake and Blair Kelly. Louie was preceded in death by brothers: Stanley and Marion Jr.

A celebration of Louie’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27 at the Aberdeen Rotary Log Pavilion from 1 pm to 4 pm.
