David Geoffrey Bleha, 68, a resident of Aberdeen and former Cartographer for the US Army, died Wednesday night, June 8, 2011 at his home in Aberdeen.
David was born in Seattle, WA on October 14, 1942 to Bernard P. and Berniece V. (Baker) Bleha. He grew up in Seattle and his family made many a trip to the beach as a kid, which later influenced him to move here after his retirement.
When he was 17, he and his twin brother Don joined the Navy. He was Honorably Discharged 2 years later and returned to Seattle. After a couple of years he joined the Army where he became a Cartographer. He spent the majority of his time in Germany and retired as a Staff Sergeant after almost 21 years of service.
He then lived in Texarkana, Texas from 1987 where he worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Corrections Officer until his retirement in 2002 when he moved to the place he loved as a child, Aberdeen.
David was a member of the Aberdeen VFW. He loved playing Pinochle at the Senior Center, Photography and he enjoyed weaving baskets. He loved to fly kites, the bigger the better. He enjoyed kite flying so much, he once took a lady on their first date…kite flying. He married her, Marjorie Mefford on April 1, 2006 in Aberdeen. She resides at the family home.
David is survived by his wife of 5 years, Marjorie Bleha; a daughter: Beatrice and husband Daniel Bleha of Minot, ND; Two sons: 1st Lt. Marc and wife Kristen Bleha of Germany and Anthony and wife Aldiany Bleha of Medesto, CA; Mother Berniece Bleha of Seattle; Brother Bernard and wife Linda Bleha of Rochester; Five grandchildren: Katarina, Mickaela, Gavin, Kristina and David. David was proceeded in death by two brothers Jon and David’s Twin, Don.
There will be a gathering with full Military Honors on Saturday, June 18th at 2 PM in the dunes
at the end of Ocean Ave., Westport, WA.
