Charles E. “Chuck” Berry

Chuck Berry passed away on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born May 29, 1930, in Everett, Washington. Chuck attended Everett schools and graduated from Everett High School in 1948. Shortly after graduation, Chuck volunteered for the Army and served as a surgical technician in the MASH 8055 Unit during the Korean War.

Upon returning home, Chuck worked at the Simpson-Lee Paper Company in Lowell for many years before moving his family to Aberdeen, Wash. in 1969 to join Grays Harbor Paper as a superintendant.

After retiring he enjoyed traveling to Cocoa Beach for shuttle launches, gardening, golfing with family, watching Duke basketball and playing with his beloved golden retrievers-- Shimpini and Kameko.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Fern Berry; his first wife, Margaret Callan Berry; and his sister, Alice Carpenter. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 28 years, Diana Berry; his sister, Betty Whitely of Santa Rosa, Calif.; his five children, Diane Peters and son-in-law, Bill, of Aberdeen, Chuck “Scooter” Berry and “favorite daughter-in-law” Cindee of Bainbridge Island, Pam Berry of Peachtree City, Ga., Tracy Marx and son-in-law (and golf partner), John of Cosmopolis, and Linda Shay of Hoquiam. Chuck was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who lovingly knew him as their Ichiban, "number one".

In lieu of flowers the family asks that any remembrance be made to Everett High School or Aberdeen High School scholarship funds.

At Chuck's request, no service is planned. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Charles Berry, please visit our flower store.
