Alfred LeRoy “Al” Bartosh, 92, a Grays Harbor resident for over 65 years, died at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center, Monday, November 20, 2017. Al was born in Waterville, WI on January 18, 1925, the son of Robert and Florence (Parmetier) Bartosh.
He attended Webster, WI schools, then served in the Army from 1947 to 1949, stationed at Ft. Lewis. He was married to Jeanne Marie Poths in Olympia on December 10, 1948 and made their home in Lacey before coming to Aberdeen.
Al worked the Cosmopolis Road Crew of the Washington State Department of Transportation for 31 years, retiring in 1977. He then established his own burl furniture business, operating it for another 40 years. He would make anything out of burls.
He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt the”Fish Creek” area of Lake Chelan where for many years friends and family would join the hunt.
In the later years, Al and his wife, Jeanne, liked to visit family in Wisconsin and fish for Northern Pike. The also loved to visit Northwest Trek in Eatonville, WA. He raised a wonderful garden and would cut stack wood for the Winter. He was also a member of the Aberdeen Elks Lodge, No. 593.
Al is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jeanne, Central Park, WA; a son: John and wife Cherie, Central Park, WA; a daughter: Kathleen Jacobson, Siren, WI; three sisters: Margaret Nielson, Luck, WI, Breatrice Yankis, Lincoln City, OR and Delores Lundstrom, Danbury, WI; granddaughters: Kristi Monahan and Shelley Berard; grandsons’s: Steven Bartosh and Kenneth Jacobson; and 7 great grandchildren. Al was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Raymond and Lloyd; a sister: Doris Whitcomb; and a grandson, Steve Bartosh.
Visitation will be held in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Monday, December 4th from 9 to 11 AM, followed by a closing service for friends and family in the chapel. Private interment will take place in Wynoochee Cemetery.
