Nancy Louise Barnes, 84, longtime Aberdeen resident and former owner of Barnes Florists in Aberdeen, died Sunday afternoon, April 15, 2018 at her home in Aberdeen.
Nancy was born on July 7, 1933 in Bergland, Michigan to James Edward and Ruby Maxine (VanDuser) Morgan. She attended school in Ontonagon, Michigan before the family moved to Olympia, Wa where she went to Olympia High School in 1948. She went to work for the State of Washington and then for Goldberg Furniture in Olympia.
On, July 11, 1953, Nancy married Bradford Hovde Barnes in Olympia. They moved to Aberdeen and started Barnes Florist where she did the books, corsages and bridal bouquet. She and Brad operated their business together for the next 55 years until retiring in 2014. Brad passed away November 19, 2017 in Seattle.
Nancy was an avid league bowler in Aberdeen into the 21st Century. She enjoyed trips to Reno and staying at their cabin on Lake Nahwatzel where she was a great hostess to all whom showed up. She was a fun-loving and playful person that liked to joke around and always had a smile.
She is survived by five daughters: Jenifer and husband Roy Watson, Hoodsport, WA, Julie Nelson and Stacie Sturgill, both of Aberdeen, Molly and husband Chuck Bates, Montesano and Amy and husband Mike DuBois, Cosmopolis; eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of her life on Sunday, April 22nd at 3 PM in the Cosi Lions Hall, Cosmopolis, WA.
