Elsie Kathryn Trew-Bailey, 87, Montesano resident and former owner of A Christmas Shop in Westport, died Monday morning, April 14, 2014 at Montesano Health & Rehab.
Elsie was born on February 25, 1927 in Aberdeen to Dale P. and Elsie K. (Backa) Trew. She graduated from Aberdeen’s Weatherwax High School where she played violin all four years. She then worked as an operator from 45’-46’ in Aberdeen.
On February 17, 1946, Elsie married Donald Eugene Bailey in Aberdeen. He died in 1982.
They moved to Portland, Oregon and then to San Jose, Ca. where she went to work at Evergreen School District where she worked in the Food Service Dept. The last 10 years Elsie was the director.
After her retirement, they moved to Westport where she opened ‘A Christmas Shop’ in 1983 until 87’.
Elsie enjoyed playing her violin and took great joy in her musical talent. She also was a member of the Grays Harbor Symphony after her retirement. She also enjoyed craft’s and art, she spent a few years oil painting and then started needle point and cross-stich, making beautiful wall hangings. She made many dolls to sell in her Christmas shop. Elsie also loved to travel and she and Steve traveled the U.S. in a 5th Wheel. They also went to New Zealand, Hawaii, Canada, England and taking the tunnel to Paris, and to New York, D.C. and surrounding areas.
Elsie is survived by a son: Donald S. bailey of Montesano; two daughters: Kathleen A. bailey of San Jose, CA and Cynthia J. Bailey of Valley Springs, CA; a brother, Joel W. Trew of Sequim, WA; two step-brothers: Dale P. Trew Jr and Lyle Watts; a step sister, Frances L. Trew; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by two sisters: Shirley A. Howard and Ramona J. Trew.
There will be a celebration of life on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 2 PM, in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s chapel. A reception will follow in the Dorothy Mann Reception Hall at Fern Hill Funeral Home.
