Obituary for Arlan Anderson

Arlan Edwin Anderson, 90, lifelong Aberdeen resident and former Water Customer Service Supervisor for the City of Aberdeen, died Thursday, October 20, 2022, at his home in Aberdeen.

Arlan was born on July 15, 1932, in Aberdeen to Edwin Samuel and Selma Edelia (Gullickson) Anderson. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1950, where he held records in track for many years. He attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho for three years and graduated from Seattle Pacific College in 1954.

While at NNC, Arlan met and fell in love with Bonnie June Painter when she became the piano accompanist for the quartet he sang in. They were married on August 27, 1953, in Nampa, Idaho. Together they built a life of serving God through their music and their love for the people in their lives, whether at home, work, or church. She lives at the family home.

In 1967, Arlan went to work for the Aberdeen Water Dept. and worked there for 36 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aberdeen, where he served as chairman for some time and led the music for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, working in his garden, fishing, sports, and especially music.

Arlan is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bonnie Anderson of Aberdeen; Three daughters: Debra McCluskey of Idaho, Jan (Kevin) Dahl of Hoquiam, and Lori (William) Friend of Middleton, ID; Five grandchildren: Samantha, Peter, Melanie, Erika and Anna; Six great grandchildren, and one on the way. Arlan was preceded in death by two half-brothers: William and Les Anderson.

There will be a celebration of life for Arlan held on Saturday, November 12th at 2 PM at Light and Life Church, Hoquiam, WA with a reception to follow.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, WA
