Obituary for Robert Earl "Bob" Cullers

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the loss of Robert, “Bob”, Earl Cullers, 80, and long-standing Grays Harbor resident who passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at his Elma residence.

Bob was born on October 22, 1941, in Astoria, Oregon to parents Chester and Martha Cullers. Bob had 4 brothers: Chet, Fred, Jerry, and Roger Wayne who unexpectedly passed away as an infant. In 1943, the family moved from Astoria to Portland, to Pendleton, and then to Hermiston, Oregon before moving to their last family residence in Renton, Washington.

Bob graduated from Hermiston High School in 1961, where he competed in football and track. He took part in some stage plays, (Oklahoma), and competed in swimming and diving. He was also chosen as best dancer in his class. Bob made many lifelong friends in Hermiston. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Renton, Washington and took a job with Boeing Aircraft Company. Bob was quickly swept off his feet when he met Patricia, (Swanson) Cullers, and they married on September 7, 1963. They continued to live and work in Renton. They came to the realization that the busy city life was not for them and made the move to the small town of Satsop, Washington. They lived on a 17-acre farm and enjoyed taking care of animals, gardening, and harvesting apples, blueberries, and blackberries. They had 3 beautiful children: Scott, Eva, and Kelly. Over the years, Bob worked several different jobs including Simpson Timber, Grays Harbor Grange Supply/Cenex, and drove a gravel truck. Bob always had a passion for animals and started his new infamous career in cattle breeding. This job took him to many surrounding towns where he became very well-known and liked. This was a fitting career as he enjoyed visiting with everyone and cared about the concerns for their animals. Bob would always go above and beyond to help in any way he could. Everyone could always count on him, whether they were a family member, friend, neighbor, or customer. In addition to being a well-known cattle breeder, Bob was also very dedicated to his community. He was a charter member of the Satsop Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years, along with his lifelong close friends, Mick Patton and Gary Joplin.

While Bob did enjoy his careers, he had an array of other interests as well including clam digging, fishing, crabbing, going to the car races, and rodeos, cutting firewood, carpentry, never ending work on the farm, and home improvement projects. He loved to restore old cars, specifically Mustangs and he even restored a 1966 Mustang for his youngest daughter’s first car. Bob’s greatest joys were his family, his wife, who passed away on January 12, 2003, his friends, and animals. He loved to care for all his farm animals, especially his cows and chickens, but he had a bond and special place in his heart for his miniature dachshund, Harley. Bob had close friends and enjoyed getting together several times a month for visiting and drinking coffee. He spent a lot of time with family enjoying the holidays, going razor clam digging, crabbing, and fishing. He loved attending family and class reunions and going back to Hermiston every summer for family gatherings and attending the rodeo.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Chester, and Martha Cullers; his brothers, Roger Wayne, and Chet Cullers, and his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Patricia Cullers.

Bob is survived by his son, Scott Cullers, of Satsop, Washington; daughters, Eva Harris and her husband, Tony Harris, of Hoquiam, Washington; and Kelly Wilcox and her husband, Destry Wilcox, of Puyallup, Washington; 6 grandchildren: Ryan Cullers, Brandon Johnson, Cody Johnson, Blake Harris, Logan Wilcox, and Declan Wilcox; and 2 great grandchildren: Ryan Johnson, and Jordan Johnson.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 11:00 AM located at the Satsop United Methodist Church on 445 Ash Road, Satsop, Washington. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home, in Aberdeen, Washington.
