Obituary for Jeannette Yvonne "Jan" Hackstadt (Hawkinson)

Jeannette Yvonne Hackstadt, 94, longtime Aberdeen resident, passed away on October 26, 2020 at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam, WA.



Jeannette was born on July 10, 1926 in Ragan, Nebraska to Russell and Minnie Agnes (Huston) Hawkinson. She moved to Aberdeen when she was 15 and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1943. She then attended Washington State University in Pullman, WA for 2 years before returning to Aberdeen where she worked at Rubensteins Clothing Store.



On July 12, 1949, Jeannette married David Warren Hackstadt in Aberdeen. He passed away on February 5, 1996.



Jeannette was the secretary at Miller Jr. High from 1970 until her retirement in 1992. Before that she was the secretary at Washington Grade School in South Aberdeen from 1967-1970. She was a member of the PEO, The Book Club and was an avid Bridge player. When she was younger, she belonged to the Aberdeen Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed entertaining, crafting, baking and was known for her baked goods and cookies. She had a zest for life that was contagious, She enjoyed spending time with her children and often traveled with them on vacations. She was always willing to try something new… especially if someone would join her. But most importantly, she was a gracious and loving mother for whom home and family were the top priority.



Jeannette is survived by a son Ted Hackstadt of Hamilton, MT; two daughters: Jo Treadwell of Aberdeen and Jane (Len) Holm of North Bend, WA; three grandchildren: Barbara Jeannette Holm, David Arnold Holm and Laura Vivian Hackstadt.



A private family graveside service was held at Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen, WA. There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, July 10 that 11 AM in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel, when hopefully all can attend. Details will be announced.



In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Allen Institute for Brain Science in memory of Jeannette Hackstadt.
