Obituary for Martha Anne "Marty" Miller (Miller)

Martha Ann “Marty” Miller died from heart failure on April 2, 2020 at her home in Hoquiam, Washington. Marty was born during a very bad winter snow storm on December 20, 1949 to Gene Mack and LaVerne Elaine (Simonson) Miller. She grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1968.
Marty attended the University of Washington, majoring in art. She had the opportunity to study with well- known American artists, including Chuck Close and Jacob Lawrence. Subsequently, she attended Western Washington University where she received her degree in Art.
Marty spent a number of years living in Madison Park in Seattle, where she also owned and operated a small gift shop and floral design business. She had many commissions to create special arrangements, designed flowers for weddings and created custom Christmas trees and décor for her clients. She had extensive knowledge of the design world, having accompanied her Mother LaVerne Miller to the gift shows to buy for the family business, Simonson’ s Gifts, in Aberdeen.
After spending several years in her “Church” in Stanwood, she made the decision in 2004 to relocate to Grays Harbor where she could be close to the beaches and the ocean. For the past fifteen years, she lived in Hoquiam. Her Life partner, Steve Greenwalt, joined her thirteen years ago. She and Steve, both artists, much enjoyed sharing their creative artistic process.
Marty is survived by her partner, Steve Greenwalt; her only sister, Lynn Miller Lindsay and husband, Frank Lindsay; her aunt, Lee Nugent of Olympia; cousins Jeff and Scott Nugent, and their families.
