Obituary for Richard Alan Garrett

Richard Alan Garrett, 60, died at his home in Elma, Washington, on February 22, 2020. He was born in Tacoma, WA, December 11, 1959, the son of William G. and Bernice (Hinckley) Garrett. He was raised in Tacoma and had attended schools there, including Washington High School.
He was a self-employed handyman in Tacoma for many years in construction, remodel and repairs. In 1979, he was married to Cheri (Lyon) Dunkin. They had two children and were divorced in 1987. He lived in the Tacoma and Lakewood areas until he moved to Elma with his longtime girlfriend, Cathy Fairchild, in 2016. Rick owned and worked on Volkswagen buses and cars for fun, was an avid NASCAR fan, liked to go fishing, canoeing and enjoyed taking long drives just for the adventure of it.
Rick is survived by a son: Dustin Garrett, Puyallup, WA; two daughters: Amber (Garrett) DeLong, Shoreline, WA and Angela (Garrett) Bedal, Midland, WA; a half-brother: Gary Hinkley, Louisiana; a sister: Shawn Garrett, Tacoma; a half-sister: Michele Mundell, Tacoma; and three amazing grandchildren. He was loved by all his family and friends, including his children, his grandchildren, his girlfriend and her children, Jason and Kayla.
A private family gathering will be held later in the spring in Ocean Park, WA.
