Obituary for Violet Marie Gardner (Courtney)

Violet Marie Gardner, 88, formerly of Centralia and Westport passed peacefully in her sleep on March 7, 2018 at Riverside Place in Hoquiam, WA.
Violet was born on April 13, 1929 in Millwood, WA to Jesse and Dollie (Daniels) Courtney. She grew up in Spokane, and spent time in Anchorage and Seattle. She came to the harbor in 1985.
Prior to marriage Violet worked at Sears and then spent the next three decades raising her children. She clerked at Ted’s Red Apple until her retirement in 1996.
After retirement she enjoyed traveling and going to rodeos, making her way to the Grand National Rodeo every year. She enjoyed puzzles, learning, and tending her flowers.
Violet was an active member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Centralia, WA and is Past Madam President of the organization.
She is survived by seven children: Fred (Sue) Gardner of Yakima; Dolly (Tom) Hughes of Onalaska; Glen Gardner of Tenino; Constance Porter of Hoquiam; Mary (Glen) Fleming of Napavine; James (Lori) Gardner of Chehalis; Tami (Ed) Tedder of Belfair; two brothers Lawrence (Lisa) Courtney of Spain and Gary Courtney of Prattsville, Arkansas; a sister, LaRayne (Dick) Carey of Ocosta; twenty five grandchildren, thirty six great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Warner Courtney and sister Shirley James; her daughter Susan Gardner; her son-in-law Patrick Porter and her grandson Daniel Tedder.
There will be a memorial service for Violet on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 3pm at South Beach Christian Center in Grayland, WA.
