Obituary for Dorothy Ellen Mann (Daneker)

Dorothy Ellen Mann (Daneker)
Dorothy Ellen Mann, 106, longtime Aberdeen resident and 1995 Citizen of the year, died peacefully, Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, WA.
Dorothy was born on December 1, 1910 in Wilson, Kansas to Lawrence and Pansy (Waters) Daneker. They came to Aberdeen in 1925 where Dorothy graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1928. She then went to Triple City Business College in Aberdeen.
On September 2, 1928, Dorothy married Raymond D. Mann at the Elma Fairgrounds. Raymond passed away on December 18, 1974.
Dorothy was an accountant for Truck & Tractor for 25 years and then for Harbor McCulloch for 2 years. She then decided to go it alone and started Mann’s Floral & Catering. She catered many events on the Harbor. She retired in 1984.
Dorothy was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church for 60 years; a member of the United Christian Church; Rhododendron Chapter 45, Order of Eastern Star; Knife & Fork Club; Grays Harbor Community Concert Association; Grays Harbor Daughters of The Nile; Grays Harbor Bird Club; Past President of Grays Harbor Business and Professional Women; The Birthday Club and Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls.
Dorothy and Raymond were active square dancers and brought square dancing to the Harbor many moons ago. They taught square dance to over 2000 pupils by 1961. She liked spending time at their Tokeland cabin with family and friends. Dorothy also cooked and delivered meals for homebound people for many years. She was always looking out and caring for others. She played piano at the local nursing homes on Sundays, up until last year. She received a 31 year Nursing Home Service Award. In 2009, she received an award for her 32 years of Retired and Senior Volunteer work. She quit driving at 100 because she didn’t want to take the test anymore. The garden she planted behind her home slowly shrank in size over the last ten years until a couple of years ago.
Dorothy is survived by her nephew, Lynn Daneker, Jr. and wife Teri, Montesano; two nieces: Joyce Atkins, Portland, OR and Carol Hofacker, Bellingham, WA; a Niece-In-Law, Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Daneker, Hoquiam and numerous other nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews and many God-children; special friends: Suzanne Mullins, Betsy Rowe and Ruth Wayman and numerous other special friends in her life. Dorothy was preceded in death by brothers: Lynn Daneker Sr., Emory Daneker; nephew, Rich Daneker, niece Shirley Daneker and sisters-in-law, Doris and Jean Daneker.
There will be a time of visitation and viewing on Friday, September 15th from 1-8 PM in Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home.
