Anita Elaine ‘Nina’ Sundstrom, 78, longtime Aberdeen resident and former cook for the Aberdeen School District, died Monday morning, August 18, 2017 at Hoquiam Hills Adult home in Grays Harbor City, WA.
Anita was born on October 20, 1938 in Shelby, Nebraska to George and Helen (Barker) Blevins. They moved to Aberdeen when she was a child. It was during an ice-cream social in the 6th grade, that she met Nels Sundstrom.
Nina graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1957 and on May 16, 1958, Anita married Nels Sundstrom in Aberdeen. He passed away on June 5, 2002.
Anita worked as a cook for over 25 years at Grays Harbor College, AJ West and at Robert Gray where she helped design the kitchen for the new building. She retired in 2003.
She loved camping, salmon fishing off Sekiu, and being with her grandkids. She was quite involved with her class reunions and was a member of the Aberdeen Eagles.
Anita is survived by three sons: Dale (Cindy) Sundstrom of Hoquiam, Dan (Patty) Sundstrom and Duane Sundstrom both of Aberdeen: a brother, George Blevins of Shelton and a sister Jean Hammell of Long Branch, WA; Ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Missell.
There will be a celebration of Anita’s life on Saturday, August 26th at 1 PM in the First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen. She will be inurned with Nels at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen.
