Obituary for Lila May Vessey (Vidovich)

Lila May Vessey, 75, a lifetime resident of Aberdeen, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Saturday, May 26, 2012. She was born in Aberdeen on May 12, 1937, the daughter of John and Agnes Vivian (Currie) Vidovich.
Lila graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1955 and had been a library assistant with the Aberdeen School District, lastly at Weatherwax before she retired in 1998 after 28 years. She was the founder and advisor of the “Jazz Cats” drill team at the high school. Over the years she had become known as “Mom” to many students.
During her lifetime Lila was very involved in school activities. She also supported her children and grandchildren in their sports activities. She was a scout leader, team mom, softball coach and room mother. Some of her fondest memories were of chaperoning trips around the Olympic Peninsula with 5th and 6th grade students. Lila enjoyed traveling with her husband to visit relatives in the Western United States and they also spent several weeks each winter in Yuma, Arizona.
Lila was a devoted wife and mother. She married Clifford Vessey on December 10, 1955 and he survives her at the family home in Aberdeen. She is also survived by a son: Ronald and wife Patricia, Normandy Park, WA; a daughter: Anita Krohn and husband Brian, Cosmopolis, WA; a brother: Nick Gupton and wife Pat, Peoria, AZ; and two grandchildren: Amanda Nyman and husband Bryan, Indianapolis, IN and Joey Korst, San Diego, CA.
A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at United Christian Church, 300 W. First St., Aberdeen, WA. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
