Condolences

Condolence From: MAX VEKICH
Condolence: What a great man! Jack did so much to create jobs on the
Harbor. I had the pleasure to work with him on many projects to bring opportunity to the harbor, most notably
AGP and the bulk Terminal at T2. Jack was captain of a great team of Port Commissioners including Chuck and Stan, that made that happen.
I also knew Jack as a good Family man, mainly through my late wife, Ivy, who was one of Jack's biggest fans and thought the world of his son. Plus sharing Jack and his wife's hospitality over a glass of wine. What a leagcy he leaves us.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family.

Condolence: My heartfelt sympathy to the family of Jack Thompson. I met Jack when I was 10 years old and he had just come to work for my stepfather (Bob Delaney) at Harbor Hardware. He helped when Bob had a serious stroke and served as a pall bearer when he died a few years later.

I haven't lived on the Harbor for nearly fifty years but was surprised to receive a phone call from Jack on July 4th, 2010. He informed me that he had spearheaded a project on behalf of the Weatherwax class of 1955 to fund and commission the creation of a bronze bust of my grandfather (Dick Balkema) and would be donating it to the school at his 55th class reunion in August of that year. When he learned that my mother wasn't well enough to travel to Aberdeen, Jack brought the bust to Seattle and met us for lunch. My mother was thrilled to see Jack again as well as the bust of her father. She was truly grateful that her father was being honored!

I know that Jack was a charismatic businessman and an enthusiastic promoter of Grays Harbor. But he was a kind and thoughtful person as well. I feel blessed to have known him.

Condolence: Jack and Jerry:
I'm so sorry about your dad. I have so many memories of him as a young man. He was around a lot when he dated your mom. I can remember my dad yelling at him as he rode a horse on the property across the driveway. Dad loved catching him and Doreen making out in the driveway. He'd drive up behind them and honk the horn. Your mom was embarassed; your dad just grinned. Of course, you kids kept my mom busy showing her all your finds (I especially liked the seed spreader full of snakes). I'll miss seeing him around town. He was a good man.
