Obituary for Joan Maxine Hendricks (Beavers)

Joan Maxine Hendricks, 80, a 40 year resident of the Harbor, died at her home in Aberdeen Tuesday, October 9, 2018. She was born in Markham, WA, February 27, 1938, the daughter of William Mathias and Blanche May (Sisk) Beavers. The family had lived in Sumner, Puyallup and Minnesota before she returned to the Harbor.
She married Lane Gordon Hendricks in Montesano in 1985. He passed away in Aberdeen December 26, 2006.
Joan had worked as a cook at Harbor Convalescent Center, South Aberdeen and a house keeper at the Iron Springs Resort, Copalis Beach, all the while being a homemaker and raising five kids.
She had been a member of the River of Life Church, South Aberdeen.
Joan loved to play slow-pitch baseball and was the pitcher on the Reiner’s slow-pitch team. She also liked to play pool and shuffleboard, go clam digging and camping. She and Lane were snowbirds for several years in Yuma, AZ. They played card games: pinochle, Skipbo, Cribbage and Uno among others. But most of all she enjoyed the annual family reunions at McCleary.
She is survived by two sons: Jubel and Gordon; two step-sons: Rodney and Lesley; two daughters: Cindy and Sherry; three step-daughters: Kay, Kathy and Evelyn; and also numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa in May of this year; a step-daughter, Sharon in September 2018; two brothers: Jerry and Bruce; and a sister: Florence.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM Monday, November 12th in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home. Pastor Doug Marks of River of Life Church, South Aberdeen, will officiate. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the River of Life Church.
