Douglas Eugene "Doug"  Roggy
Douglas Eugene “Doug” Roggy, 78, a four year resident of Montesano, passed away at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded in the loving arms of his family, Wednesday, March 7, 2018. He was born September 22, 1939, the son of Eugene and Helen (Schifferns) Roggy in Salem, OR. He was raised in Portland, OR and attended Holy Redeemer High School and then graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School in Spokane in 1957. He would then attend Oregon State University at Corvalis, OR.
He worked ten years for the Corps of Engineers and then joined Scarsella Brothers Construction as a project engineer building I-90 in Washington State. He would also work other road building projects and in 1975 became a real estate broker working as a sales agent and then managing several real estate offices in Kent, WA. In 1995 he worked as a commercial property manager until his retirement in 1998.
He married Judith Ann Laakso on November 15, 1980 in Kent, WA and after retirement they moved to Las Vegas in 2001. They would come to LaPine, OR where he belonged to an antique car club, restoring a number of old cars. They would later make their home in Montesano in 2013. They enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel, vacationing in Hawaii, and spent time fishing with the family at Lake Curlew, WA. He also liked to salmon fish, garden, raise championship dahlias and loved cheering the Seahawks and rooting for at the Mariners. Doug will be forever in our hearts and never forgotten.
Besides his wife, Judy, of the family home, Doug is survived by four daughters: Valorie J. Roggy and Eddy Covello, Burien, WA, Janice Kesler Roggy, Auburn, WA, Jennifer and husband Bruce Warner, Orting, WA, and Amy and husband Robert Edgerton, West Hills, CA; three step-daughters: Michelle Benson, Montesano, Marcie and husband Randy Kesler, Everett, WA and Tracey and husband Mark Hamper, CleElum, WA; extended family: Janice and Steve Marks, Montesano, Jeannie and Lewie Legat, Coupeville, WA, Jerry and Connie Laakso, Bellingham, WA, Jimmy Laakso, Aberdeen, WA and many nieces and nephews. There are 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who were the center of his attention. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilynn Garfield and Rita Lidiokitos.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 PM Sunday, May 6th at the Orting City Building/Library, 202 Washington Ave., Orting, WA.
