Obituary for Earl Glen Matthews Jr.

Earl Glen Matthews Jr., 70, Aberdeen resident and a person that would greet ya with a smile and a good laugh, went home to be with his Lord during his sleep on March 12, 2018 at his home in Aberdeen.
Earl was born on April 11, 1947 in Jackson, Mississippi to Earl Glen Sr. and Norma (Johnson) Matthews. Earl’s family moved around when he was younger and he lived in Bloomington and San Bernardino, CA. They eventually moved to Grayland, WA where he lived until age 19, when he moved to Buckley, WA. He later moved to Aberdeen and was one of the first developmentally disabled adults to go it out on his own here in the harbor.
He worked for Timberland Opportunities in the 80’s doing janitorial work. Earl also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Harbor Assembly of God Church and had lately been going to the Hoquiam Seventh-day Adventist Church. Earl was a participant in the Special Olympics in Bowling and Softball. He enjoyed greeting people and was a staple at the Riverside Shoppes (the happiest place on earth to Earl) where he always had a good thing to say and had an infectious laugh. He never met a person he didn’t like. He also enjoyed movies and listening to music.
Earl is survived by his sisters: Betty (Bill) James of Aberdeen, Barbara Henderson (Jim) of Aberdeen, Nancy (Joe) McGraw of Aberdeen, Sue (Gary) Krause of Kelso and Linda (Rick) Scott of Carson City, NV. Also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Joe Henderson A special thank you to Pam Wickmire Earls friend and dedicated care provider, Family Practice G.H. , Riverside Shoppes, G.H. Housing Authority and G.H. Transit.
There will be a celebration of Earl’s life March 31, 2018 at Riverside Shoppes in a room near center stage from 3:00 to 5:00. Come and bring your favorite finger food if you like.
