Obituary for Anna Maria Manenica (Oreskovich)

Anna Maria Manenica, 98, devoted wife and mother, died Saturday, December 16, 2017 with family members present.
Anna was born on August 24, 1919 in Crosby, Minnesota to John and Amanda (Matesich) Oreskovich. After her father’s death and her mother remarried, the family moved to Benoit, Wisconsin where she attended school, while helping to rear five younger siblings on the family dairy farm. At the age of 16, Anna and her best friend moved to Milwaukee, WI to find work. A few years later, she moved to Hoquiam, WA to live with her maternal aunt, Rose Donovick, and her family.
On January 17, 1944, Anna married Peter J. Manenica at Our Lady of Good Help Parish in Hoquiam. They relocated to Alameda, CA, where he was stationed during WWII. After the war, the couple moved back to Aberdeen where they reared their family. Pete passed away in 1989 in Aberdeen.
Anna worked for Ocean Spray Cranberries from 1971 until her retirement in 1987. Before that, she was a homemaker. In her early years, she had worked as a housekeeper and caregiver, an employee of Acme Door Factory, and as a barmaid.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Aberdeen, St. Joan’s Guild, St. Mary Catholic Church in Aberdeen and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elma. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, singing in the church choir, traveling and was known for her “mean platter of razor clams.”
Anna is survived by two sons: Michael G. Manenica and Peter J. Manenica, Jr., both of Aberdeen; four daughters: Geraldine Manenica of Portland, OR; Kathleen (Jamie Frank) Manenica of Tacoma, WA; Julienne (Jon) Guyton of Elma, WA and Jan Salisbury of Portland, OR; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two half-sisters: Mary Timmerman of Florida and Rose (Neal) White of Santa Maria, CA. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Frank and Michael John Oreskovich; a sister, Catherine Ishler; two half-brothers: Nick and John Kostello and a half-sister, Violet Bebee.
There will be a time of visitation and viewing on Thursday, December 28th from 1-7 PM in Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.
Vigil Service is scheduled at 7 PM in the Fern Hill Funeral Home chapel.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 29th at 11:30 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Aberdeen, followed by a Committal Service at Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen. A reception will follow in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall.
