Obituary for Rick L. Silvan

Rick Levi Silvan, 69, a lifetime resident of Aberdeen, died at Olympia after an extended illness. He was born in Aberdeen, December 26, 1946, the son of Frank and Juanita (Blumberg) Silvan.
He was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School. After high school he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Dale during the Vietnam War.
Following his discharge he started work for the City of Aberdeen Street Department and after 31 years he retired as the department manager.
Rick was actively involved with the Mountaineers and Olympians Hiking Club, on volunteer trail projects and climbed extensively in the Olympic and Cascade Mountains.
Hiking, climbing, biking, kayaking, skiing, traveling…being active, outdoors and exploring new places was his passion. He was a jack-of-all trades and a master of many. He used his amazing skills, knowledge and talent building his own log home and created a beautiful garden around it.
Rick is survived by his partner and wife of 25 years, Jennifer Weldon, Aberdeen; his children: Robin (Danny) Townsend and Brian (Angie) Silvan; his brothers: Greg (Lisa) Silvan, Les (Glenna) Silvan, Duncan Blumberg and Tinker (Betty) Blumberg; his sisters: Lora (Scott) Prato; Lucinda (Don) Gustavson, Kris (Shane) Massey and Mel (Chris) Nicholson; a granddaughter, Gracie; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and a lifetime of friends.
Per his request there will be no funeral service but a private family party to celebrate his life. A private scattering of his ashes will be at his favorite spot in the Olympia Mountains.
The family suggests memorials may be made to an outdoor or nature organization of your choice.
