Obituary for Zelda M. McGuire

Zelda M. McGuire
Zelda M. McGuire, 90, widow of Warren McGuire a former resident of Grays Harbor, died at a Seattle hospital Thursday, May 26, 2016. She was born in Wells, MN, December 11, 1925 the daughter of George and Myrtle Madden. She graduated from Wells High School, where she played on the boy’s football team, in 1943 and worked at several jobs, including as a truck driver, before arriving in the 1960s in Portland, Ore. where she was hired by Haley Foods.
It was there she met Warren W. McGuire, whom she married in Seattle on March 30, 1974. They lived in Federal Way and Auburn and Zelda worked as administrator of distribution for Acme Poultry Supply for 20 years before retiring in 1985. Mr. McGuire passed away in Auburn in 1988. Zelda moved to Bremerton in 2006 to be near family.
She enjoyed gardening and ceramics, but her true loves were her cats—all of which she “adopted”—and the Seattle Mariners, whom she also adopted, referring to them as “her boys”, with a special affinity for mediocre middle infielders. She watched the M’s on TV every night and, after her sight failed, listened faithfully to the TV broadcasts..
Zelda is survived by two step-sons: Tom and wife Ellen McGuire, Seabeck, Wash. and Michael and wife Michelle McGuire, Australia; a step-daughter: Nancy and husband Lynn Mucken, San Diego, Calif.; a sister: Neva Grinstaff, Oceanside, Calif.; and also nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, June Madden and a brother, Richard Madden.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Noon, Sunday, June 5th at the Colonnades in Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen. A reception will follow in the Dorothy Mann Room at Fern Hill Funeral Home.
A card of condolence with a memory or a message may be sent to the family at www.fernhillfuneral.com
