Condolence: February 21, 2015
Mark & I were high school classmates.
When I think of Mark Van Guse, three things come to my mind.
Mark was the unofficial score keeper of hacks given to the Marquette classmates of 1966.
His responsibilities included recording each time and the number of hacks administrered.
In his capacity, he made sure that each member shared equally in this experience. This could also include orchestrating incidents so that " no one was left behind".
Mark was the first person, that I knew, who had mastered the art of Signing.
He was so good, that he was signing subconsciously all the time. That came in handily when multiple choice tests were given.
In our senior year of football, our center(John Durham) became ill and could not participate.
All were concerned about who would fill those big shoes in our line. Mr. O'Brien asked Mark if he knew the plays. Mark answered Misters questions correctly and was given the position.
He stepped up to the plate and was critical in winning the League & Parochial Championships with a season record of 8 wins and only one loss.
This was characteristic of Mark, stepping up many times during his military experience.
Well, Mark, I will be looking forward to our class reunion in the sky. I know you will step up to the plate and greet your Marquette classmates as we arrive.

Condolence: Kris and Gabe-We are just heartbroken for you. What a shock when we opened the paper. We have so many happy memories as friends and young parents when our guys were at Purdy elementary. I can't tell you how many times Seth comes into our conversations when with our boys. Their wives always nod as they know the stories too! We will watch for news on Mark's Celebration of Life. It will be so good to hug you all. Love you...Phil, Chris, Phillip and Ryan

Condolence: I was fortunate to have Mark as my "Big Brother-in-law" for 30 years. We lost one of the good guys last week and are keeping Kris and Gabe and the entire family in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss his laugh and love and his dedication to his Mighty Huskies of the University of Washington.

Condolence: I was fortunate to have Mark as my big brother. He was the light for all of his family and friends. I don't have one memory I have hundreds and they are going through my head every second. I remember basketball games, picnics, birthday parties and family get togethers. His big smile and infectious laugh were always warming to see and hear. He was always ready to listen and help out with anything you needed and life without him will be hard, but I know he is watching over us and sending us his love.

Condolence: Very sorry to hear of Mark's passing. I remember sharing a few beers with Mark, John and a few of our friends one afternoon at the Van Guse home in the Spring of 1971. He was a great guy and a good influence on his younger siblings.

Condolence: I knew Mark for many years and got to know him for the great person he was. He was always passionate about everything he did, whether family, job, or sports. His energy was contagious and reflected who he really was. Mark had an effect on everyone he met. I will always remember his laugh and humor. The world was a better place because he was in it.
Goodbye dear friend...

Condolence: Kris and Gabe,
I am so sorry for your loss and the loss to all of us, Mark's family and friends. Mark was an incredible man, he always had a smile, handshake or hug for everyone he saw. I especially loved his bear hugs and "love ya" every time I saw him. Mark had a great passion for any topic and could talk with us for hours.

I remember the first time I met Mark and you, at the Tacoma Mall. Mark was Rick's manager at UPS, I could tell how much Rick liked and respected Mark and knew we would be friends.

Mark was a good friend to Rick and I and will be greatly missed.

I know Seth is happy to have his favorite playmate with him.

You are in my prayers,

Lynn

Condolence From: Lander Martinson (Coach Len)
Condolence: Mark, Kris, Gabe... Thank you for letting me share a bit of your lives throughout the years. It was such a joy and pleasure to spend time with you throughout the many basketball seasons. As you know, Mark was one of my favorites. As Gabe's coach, I LOVED hearing the many "WAY TO GO G!!!" from the rafters. He certainly had a voice that could cut through the gym noise. I'll always remember Mark as a man of passion and opinion. And I loved that he wasn't afraid to share them. He had no problem pulling me aside and giving me his thoughts on the game. You were both lucky to have Mark. I'm sure he and Seth are enjoying playing catch up. I love you both and will continue to hold you up in my prayers.

Len
