Obituary for Steven Dennis Steinman

Steven Dennis Steinman
Steven Dennis Steinman, 66, an Aberdeen Real Estate Broker, died at Harbor View Medical Center, Seattle, Saturday morning, December 13, 2014. Steven was born in Aberdeen on April 6, 1948, the son of Harold and Anne (Wiseman) Steinman. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1966 and went on to receive a BA and a Master’s Degree in Business and Finance from the University of Puget Sound in 1970 and 1971. He also minored in music. During his sophomore year at UPS he studied art history and music in Rome and Vienna and travelled throughout Europe. While at UPS, Steven was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Following graduation from UPS he stayed in Tacoma working for Victor Lyon Real Estate. In 1973 upon failing health of his father, Harold, Steven returned to Aberdeen to operate the family business, Worth’s Ladies’ Apparel and his real estate business, South Shore Realty. The company was involved in real estate sales and property management, during which time he built South Shore Apartments and helped to develop the South Shore Mall.
He married Rhonda Nielsen on December 7, 1974 at Temple Beth Israel, Aberdeen. Steven and Rhonda worked together for all 40 years of their marriage, first at Worth’s Ladies’ Apparel, and then at South Shore Realty.
Steven was a 41 year member of the Rotary Club of Aberdeen and was a Paul Harris Fellow; a 45 year member of the Aberdeen Elks Lodge, of which he also participated as a drummer in the Elks Band; and had also been a member of the Aberdeen Eagles Aerie and the Hoquiam Moose.
During his very active life he served as President of the Grays Harbor United Way Campaign, President of the Grays Harbor Association of Realtors, Executive Board Member and Secretary of Aberdeen Rotary Club, a 20 year member and Chairman of the Grays Harbor Board of Equalization, had been a guest on KBKW’s Coffee Talk several times, with Rhonda served as Girl Scout Cadette Troop leaders, coached baseball, taught Junior Achievement at Miller Jr. High and business management at Grays Harbor College, and was active in the Democratic Party.
He taught Sunday School at Temple Beth El in Tacoma. He had started the path to become a Rabbi, but found Rock and Roll instead. During his life he was the drummer for the Huntington Band and the Bob Dalrymple Trio; played for musicals for the Grays Harbor College Symphony and the Driftwood Players, some of which were together with his wife, Rhonda; and played in support of musicals with Aberdeen High School and Pat Whilhelms. Along with Rhonda and sons David and Jonathan, he also played in the Old Time Fiddlers.
Steven is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rhonda, two sons: David (Donna), Aberdeen and Jonathan, Sammamish; a grandson: Harold Ivan, Aberdeen, a brother: S. Gary (Merrisue), Mason Lake, two nieces: Lisa (Sam) Barer, Olympia, and Suzanne (Josh) Sherman, Seattle.
A celebration of Steven’s life will be held from 1 to 4 PM Sunday, December 21st at the Rotary Log Pavilion, Aberdeen.
A private family interment took place in Fern Hill Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Aberdeen Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 836, Aberdeen, WA 98520; Temple Beth Israel, 1801 Sherwood Lane, Aberdeen, WA 98520 or any charity of your choice.
