Obituary for Stephen Jay "Steve" Fox

Stephen Jay "Steve" Fox
Stephen Jay Fox, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his home in Montesano, WA after a valiant battle with lung cancer.
Steve was born on July 22, 1946, in Olympia, WA to Merle and Constance (Miller) Fox. He grew up in Tacoma and in his junior year his family moved to Pacific Beach where he graduated from Moclips High School in 1966. He attended Grays Harbor College and then enlisted in the Army. After basic training in Fort Lewis he attended advanced training in Fort Rucker, Alabama. He was deployed with Army Security Agency to Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief. He also served in Ethiopia on a U.S. cartography mission during the reign of Haile Selassie. His last assignment before being honorably discharged was as an aircraft maintenance instructor at Quantico, West Virginia.
In February 1972 he met Karen Dusell on a blind date. They were wed later that year on October 28th in St. Jerome's Catholic Church at Hogan's Corner. They made their first home in Moclips, WA moving to Montesano in 1975 where Karen still resides.
Steve worked in the Housekeeping Dept. at Grays Harbor Community Hospital from 2004 until his retirement in 2012 due to illness. He took great pride in making the floors shine. Before that he worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation as a bridge tender on Riverside Bridge in Hoquiam and as a highway maintenance worker.
He enjoyed watching the Mariners, Seahawks and Montesano High School Football. He also enjoyed going to the local casinos and their buffets.
Steve will be missed by anyone who has had the pleasure of enjoying his good will and great sense of humor.
Steve is survived by his wife of 41 years, Karen Fox of Montesano; two sons: Ian and wife Nikki Fox of Seattle and Brian Fox of Olympia; his mother Connie Fox-Maddox of Corvallis, OR and his brother M. Douglas and wife Melissa Fox of Moses Lake, WA.
There will be a celebration of Steve’s life on Saturday, August 23rd at 11AM at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen with a reception to follow in the Dorothy Mann Reception Hall.
Per Steve's request, donations in his remembrance can be sent to Harbors Home Health and Hospice at 201 7th St. Hoquiam, WA or PAWS of Grays Harbor at 801 W 1st St. Aberdeen, WA.
